CAMBRIDGE

Long before it gained international fame as a university city, Cambridge was a thriving Fenland market town and a busy inland port. Connected to the Washand the sea by way of the rivers Cam and Great Ouse, its origins date back to Roman times. It's career as a centre of learning came later, in the thirteenth century, after a disturbance in Oxford in 1209. 

 

The oldest college is Peterhouse, founded in 1284 and honey coloured college buildings now cluster along the banks of the river Cam. You can walk through grassy meadows past buildings dating back to Tudor times and take in sublime views like that of Clare College, founded in 1326 next to King's College Chapel, completed in 1515 and the Fellows' building by James Gibb of 1724 from the "backs." Our large double room takes its name from Graham's university and work City. The decor reflects fun times spent messing about on the river with our fishy cushions and colourful blades mirror! This restful space has views over the fenland fields to the spire of Langtoft church.
